Anastasia Cisarovna is a Russian aristocrat who was sentenced to death in 1917. She was released from prison after the Bolsheviks came to power in the October Revolution. She later escaped to Poland, where her father was living, and lived hidden there for the rest of her life. Her life was an inspiration to the Romanovs who were imprisoned by the Bolsheviks, and she was affectionately referred to as ‘Anastasija’.

Anastasia Cisarovna (Baroness) – Who’s Who. Anastasia Nikolayevna’s controversial career began with a secret marriage to a man she had never met, and ended with a secret marriage to a man she had never met. Anastasia was born Anastasia Nikolaevna in Moscow on the 20th of October, 1906 to Prince Nikolai Mikhailovich and his wife, the former Princess Maria Mikhailovna of Russia. Her father was the Chief of the Imperial Chancellery, and her mother the daughter of General Mikhail Nikolaevich Naryshkin, Prime Minister of Russia from 1894 to 1901. Anastasia was the third of eight children. She was the only one

Another iconic character featured in Snake Eyes: The trailer for G.I. Joe Origins introduces one of the villains, the Baroness, played by Ursula Corbero. We’ve already seen a live version of the Baroness in the movie G.I. Joe : Rise of Cobra, where she was played by Sienna Miller. In the film, she is Ana Lewis, Duke’s ex-fiancée, whom he left out of guilt after allowing his brother Rex to die. Rex survived, became Cobra’s commander and brainwashed his sister to become Anastasia DeCobray, a baroness loyal to Cobra. In the end, she overcomes her programming for Duke’s sake and helps him settle the account of his brother’s life. That whole redemption sequence and his romance with Duke was original to the film, and hopefully we’ll see a full-blown supervillain in the new film. Now, as usual, we’ll look at the original.

Much of Anastasia Sisarovna’s past is secret, hidden in layers of lies and deceit. She was born in Europe, most likely in East Germany, heiress to an old noble family. Her parents were decadent aristocrats, and they spoiled their child as best they could, but as spirited and cynical as she grew up, she developed a political sensibility early on. When she lived in Eastern Europe, she experienced firsthand the hypocrisy of the so-called free world, and she especially detested the American propaganda that promised equality and freedom but in reality was just another form of oppression. As a student, Anastasia joined several radical groups, then continued her anti-Americanism in extremist groups that introduced her to the world of espionage. Trained in sabotage and espionage in the academy of an unnamed intelligence agency (most likely the KGB), Anastasia developed a secretive talent in many unusual fields: Cryptography, psychological warfare, counter-espionage, biochemistry – it all came so easily to her that she soon became a world-class expert in all these fields. By the time she graduated from the mysterious academy, she was already one of the world’s best spies, and her feelings for the free world combined with her talents led her to Cobra, a newly formed paramilitary organization with ambitious goals. Through surgical acts of terror, Cobra seeks to dominate the world in order to expose the hypocrisy of America and its allies and to establish a new world order in which, under their enlightened leadership, people will finally experience true equality and prosperity (subject to regime change, of course). Anastasia was fascinated by the plans and ideals of the organization and joined with enthusiasm. She adopted the code name Baroness and made it clear from the start that she would not be a mere subordinate: She would be there as the commander.

Experienced, talented, charismatic and ruthless, Baroness climbed the ranks of Cobra and won the favor of Cobra Commander, the organization’s undisputed leader, and Destro, his weapons supplier and second-in-command (Cobra’s other big boss, Dr. Mindbender, never trusted Baroness). She had had ties to Destro in the past, when the villain was not yet known as a masked arms dealer, but she had not revealed those ties to anyone, not even the man’s secret identity, which only Cobra knew. Loyal to both men, but keen to be their equal, the Baroness played one off against the other until she was promoted to Director of Intelligence and eventually became part of the Cobra-Triumvirate, controlling parts of the organization as she saw fit. When Cobra debuted, the Baroness knew exactly where to go to do the most damage to the free world in one fell swoop: Disguised as a journalist, she got close to the world’s most prominent nuclear physicist, Dr. Adele Burkhart, and managed to kidnap her and turn her over to Commander Cobra at one of their hidden bases in the Caribbean islands. However, when Cobra’s plans become known to the intelligence services of the world, an elite unit of Team G.I. Joe is formed specifically to fight Cobra: They immediately tracked Burkhart down and discovered the Caribbean island where she was hiding. But the baroness had her own spies, and she was preparing for the arrival of the soldiers: She dressed up as Dr. Burkhart and tried to trick them ….. to deceive them. Unfortunately, the Joes proved more capable than she thought, seeing through the ruse and freeing the real Dr. Burkhart, forcing the Baroness and Cobra Commander to flee. From there, Cobra started an all-out war with G.I. Joe, and Baroness was at the forefront of helping Dr. Venom develop a deadly poison that would destroy all resistance. The Baroness played to win, and if the prize was peace, she would surely get it.

Anastasia Sisarovna is a woman full of contradictions: She can be extremely naive and playful, but also dangerously manipulative and downright cruel, she has a romantic side but remains cynical, she is calculating but also impulsive, a complicated woman for complicated times. As Baroness, she is a highly skilled and intelligent agent, a born spy with skills in psychological warfare and cryptography; she is also a formidable field agent, a sniper who can handle any firearm, especially light machine guns and assault rifles, and particularly adept at piloting the deadly H.I.S.S. tank that dominates the battlefield. De Barones is a terrorist of personal ambition on the one hand and pure idealism on the other. She firmly believes in ridding people of American hypocrisy and lies, but she… She may not be the villain of her own story, but she’s no savior either.
