I have to confess that I have never been a fan of action movies. I’ve never been able to suspend disbelief long enough to see the good guys win; I can’t turn my brain off and let my body do it’s thing. I’m a thinker; I think and think until I have to think some more, because I can’t seem to get my head around the fact that it actually happened.

DREADNOUGHT DOMINION is a new project for one of my favorite examples of why we need to get our stories and our lives into the movies. At present, the only thing I can think of that’s more impactful than a movie is how it changes your life. That’s why I’m hoping to collaborate with the talented director and writer Andy Williams, who will be producing the DREADNOUGHT DOMINION project.

It’s not often that you can turn yourself into an action figure, especially in your home town, but Dreadnought Dominion is offering all of their fans a unique opportunity: a chance to be turned into a figure and featured in the upcoming Dreadnought Dominion Action Figures Series.

In case you didn’t know: Long-running fan series DREADNOUGHT DOMINION (since 2014!) has launched a new campaign on Indiegogo to raise $5,000 to fund the production costs for three upcoming fan films – two episodes of Dominion and one episode of Gary’s new spin-off PROJECT RUNABOUT, which will use a brand new set that Gary has almost completed….

If you haven’t donated yet, there are still three weeks to go, and they’ve already made a good start and reached almost a third of their goal. But every little bit helps, so here’s the link if you want to become a donor (and you definitely should!) …..

My favorite thing about these people is that they never take themselves too seriously. They participate to have fun – and to share that fun with the rest of the fans. Most of the dozens of fan films released so far contain funny elements, including a single episode that breaks the fourth wall, an episode shot in front of a studio audience, and another that features a member of the cast who is actually a member of the Q continuum and likes to parody famous Hollywood actors from the 20th century. I can’t believe I’m doing this.

Check out the trailer for the next episode of The More Things Change they released last weekend…..

They also did some serious stories. Indeed, Dreadnought Dominion is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you’ll get!

Speaking of boxing: I raised an eyebrow when I saw one of the perks in their recent crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. For those who donate $750 or more, showrunner Gary Davis will create a sculpture of the donor himself (or herself, because we’re not forgetting the non-binary folks)! Sure, $750 isn’t exactly change, but it only gives you two of these unique perks.

I was curious about these custom figures, so I contacted Gary to ask him some questions…..

Gary Davis of DREADNOUGHT DOMINION

JONATHAN – How exactly do you make someone into a character, Gary?

GARY – I only mix heads with bodies. Sometimes character is hard to describe; I just have to find something that fits. For Randy Wrenn’s character, Commander Denson, it’s the old Scotty’s head on young Scott’s body. For the other team member, I took Q’s head, removed the hair and drew a haircut. For Commodore Grissom Frank Parker, it was Picard’s head on Kirk’s body with the commodore’s scythe…..

Here are some other examples. KENNETH THOMPSON’s character, Captain Ray Martin of the ship Saladin, was just a Kirk character, but I created a Saladin logo. DAVID AGRINSONIS appeared in an episode of STARSHIP FARRAGUT, and I was able to make him into a character with Cisco’s head and arms on McCoy’s body. Lieutenant Commander Haas was a Dax character in a Trials and Tribble-ations TOS uniform with dyed blonde hair…..

JONATHAN – And the package? How do you manage to give it a personality?

I take the existing package, then carefully remove the plastic and wash away the excess glue. I draw the back, print it on adhesive paper, secure it, put the new figure in the plastic and finally glue it back on. I’ve done a lot of things for people. I embarrassed my wife’s boys when friends came to visit: I showed them the number and asked: Who else has a mother with a character of her own?

JONATHAN – Sorry for the last question, but is what you’re doing legal?

HARRY – Well, I don’t mass produce them, I don’t use the words Star Trek anywhere on the packaging, and I always pay for the original figures. And it’s a fact that custom action figures have been available on eBay for years. Honestly, who knows? But custom figurines are real art.

Now, for those who can’t afford to donate $750, don’t worry! For only $50, Gary will create a virtual digital business card with your photo. Just send a picture of yourself in your favorite Trek costume and Gary will take care of the rest. And if you don’t have a Trek suit… why on earth are you reading this blog ????. No, I’m just kidding. Gary will work with you no matter what you wear in the photo (but no betazoid wedding photos please!). Other available bonuses include digital posters, a digital comic book, a voiceover from one of the upcoming Dominion episodes (I picked that one!) and a set of digital trading cards featuring the entire Dominion cast and crew.

For those wondering what the $5,000 will be used for, Gary and his friends have made a very detailed explanation of the cost in this entertaining video…..
