Warner Bros. has been seeking for ways to increase its content offerings since the debut of HBOMax last year. Because of the epidemic, they even chose to release the new films in cinemas and on streaming services at the same time, but not everyone agreed with their decision.
Their longstanding partner, Christopher Nolan, has opted to create his next film for Universal Pictures, while Patty Jenkins consented to helm Wonder Woman 3 only when it was assured that the film will be released in cinemas.
Now that the number of HBOMax customers is increasing and the service is becoming accessible in more countries, WB has decided it’s time to start developing movies just for the streaming service, and two of them are ‘Batgirl’ and ‘Blue Beetle,’ which are fortunately for DC fans.
For years, the Batgirl film was stuck in development hell. Joss Whedon was linked to the project at first, but departed immediately after the failure of Justice League in 2017. Christina Hodson will write the screenplay, while Adil El Arbi and Bill Fallah will direct the film.
Leslie Grace will play Batgirl, while J.K. Simmons will allegedly reprise his role as James Gordon in the film. The film’s directors also confirmed that Batman would appear in it, albeit they did not specify which Batman. Grace also said that no costume has been created yet, but Batgirl would have her comic-accurate red hair.
The first DCEU film developed exclusively for HBOMax will be Batgirl. As a starting point, the film will purportedly be influenced by The New 52 comic books.
Also in production for HBOMax is Blue Beetle, another DC film. Angel Manuel Soto will helm the film, which will star Xolo Mariduea in the lead role.
