News from the British royal family reveals that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was transferred to a specialist heart hospital in London on Monday for tests and monitoring of a pre-existing heart condition while he continues treatment for an infection, Buckingham Palace said.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the Duke of Edinburgh was transferred today from King Edward VII Hospital to St Bartholomew’s Hospital, where doctors will continue to treat him for infections and test and monitor him for pre-existing heart disease. Duke is still feeling well and responding to treatment, but is expected to remain in the hospital at least until the end of the week.

News of the Royal Family – Prince Philip has moved out

The Barth Heart Center is the largest specialized cardiovascular center in Europe. According to the National Health Service, the center performs more heart surgeries, MRIs and scans than any other facility in the world.
Philip retired from royal office in 2017 and now rarely makes public appearances. During the current isolation of the coronavirus in England, Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was staying with the Queen at Windsor Castle.

Philip married Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and is the longest-serving royal spouse in British history. He and the Queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

News of the Royal Family – Prince Philip recovers well

Royal expert Phil Dampier said today: It must be good news that Prince Philip is being nursed in a second hospital. If he came home in an ambulance, I’d be worried. I hope he’s gone and leaves soon.

Philip is known for his quiet demeanour and royal biographer Penny Junor said his behaviour in hospital would make a big difference.

Today she said: Let’s hope he doesn’t quit, let’s hope he’s not a good patient, because that would probably be a bad sign – the Grumpy Duke is healthy.

In December 2011, the Duke was flown by helicopter from Sandringham to hospital after experiencing chest pains as the royal family prepared for Christmas.

In what the BBC described at the time as major healthcare, he was treated for a blocked coronary artery at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire and underwent a minimally invasive coronary stenting procedure.

The Queen, his children and grandchildren visited him during his four-day stay in hospital, where he spent Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Four years earlier, in October 2007, a royal courtier told the Daily Mirror that Philip had been secretly suffering from a heart condition for 15 years.
